Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation was the primary beneficiary. It was founded by Bill Gates, Microsoft founder, and his wife Melinda. They focused on world health and education. Bill and Buffett have been friends since the beginning of the 1990s. The three Buffett children and the Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation (named after his wife) were among the foundations that received donations. They were focused on reproductive rights for women, funded college scholarshipsand other charities. In 2010, Buffett and Gates formulated the Giving Pledge. This pledge also encouraged other wealthy individuals to give a large portion of their fortunes to charitable organizations.
